The digital terrestrial trunked radio standard TETRA has been specified by the European Telecommunication Standards Institute (ETSI) in cooperation with leading manufacturers, system operators and user organisations. Therefore this terrestrial trunked radio standard is fully conform with ETSI-Standard. It is an answer to the evolving needs of professional mobile network operators who have to cope with traffic congestion and growing demands for sophisticated speech and data services. TETRA describes the most advanced technology currently available for a professional digital mobile radio system.
Based on the digital TETRA standard, ACCESSNET-T was developed by Rohde & Schwarz as the new professional mobile communication network for digital trunked radio systems, that conforms fully to ETSI-standard. The network structure of the digital mobile radio system ACCESSNET-T is non-hierarchichal and subject to no topological restrictions. The system’s suitability for multiprotocol applications allows it to be used as a digital platform for a professional digital mobile radio network that must meet high availability requirements. ACCESSNET-T's capacity allows mixed MPT and TETRA user groups to coexist side by side with the use of both technologies.
The components of the digital trunked radio system ACCESSNET-T are the base station DTX-500, the switching controller node (SCN) DMX-500, the single site system DSS-500 and subscriber terminals. There will be more manufacturers of TETRA terminals, and more of these terminals sold than any competing digital trunked radio system. TETRA terminals are likely to be cheaper than the alternatives examined. The costs will drop dramatically with time.
